Case Study

Bringing the Vision of a Fully Online Festival to Life

How do you bring a network of diverse and dynamic feminists from across the globe together in the face of a global pandemic? South Feminist Futures were committed to their vision of hosting a transcontinental convening, despite the limitations that the COVID-19 regulations imposed on their plans.

Without many points of reference for virtual events of this magnitude, the organising team needed a partner to translate their vision into a seamless digital experience. Stractiv8 became that collaborator, co-creating a transformative event aligned with the Festival’s vision and values.

The Festival created dynamic dialogues and connections within the feminist community in and from the Global South. Hosting a fully virtual and multilingual event during the height of COVID-19 regulations presented challenges, which were mitigated in the following ways:

Website design for programmeSpeaker and moderator supportAmplification through live streamingResponsive support
Designing a platform that aligned to the vision of the Festival and allowed participants to follow the programme.Preparing moderators and speakers for the virtual format through run sheets along with guidelines on how to present to virtual audiences.Expanding digital reach to a broader audience through live stream feeds broadcast on the event YouTube and Facebook pages.Executing live sessions and attending to technical glitches while keeping attendees engaged in the proceedings.

The Outcome

Our service brought the following outcomes:

• Over 1 000 attendees joined the dialogues hosted over the span of five days across different time zones, sparking new connections and collaborations.
• Conversations extended beyond the event, sustaining the energy of feminist mobilising and organising in the Global South.
• Execution: Every detail reflected professionalism and alignment with the Festival’s goals.

Our Reflections

1 – Multi-lingual convenings are possible and necessary for true regional integration. Working with skilled translators and interpreters enables implementation and participant experience.

2 – Efforts to make discussions and presentations interactive increases participation, and helps to nurture a community that will grow in reach and numbers.

3 – Collaboration across skills sets offers a wider range of available ideas as well as opportunities for learning,

Feedback from the client

The Stractiv8 team displayed a great level of professionalism and commitment when working with our team. They responded well to feedback from our diverse team and worked well across the many time zones which we were located.

It was a pleasure working with a service provider whose values align with ours and who was able to manage our expectations in a transparent manner with each deliverable.
